The Sheikah Slate was apparently made to resemble the WiiU gamepad!! Pretty funny that...I know they tweaked it a bit when they decided to SWITCH-I-FY the game)

Well that was the history, the real time reality: We have had it for @3days and I gotta say...Wow! It is good.
Just what the doctor... well, I don't know about ordered but certainly what I wish the doctor would have in his waiting room.
The overall vibe is...well...just pleasing. Its a bit Zen. Quiet and immersive, it really gives you the experience of stepping off into another dimension for some R and R. The minimal soundtrack adds without distraction. The promise of high adventure is heralded by the immediate realization that this world...is...huge! Really huge in its bigness. Sorta like, "Here's your backpack, there's the Grand Canyon and we will pick you up on the other side in a month or two" huge. The vista's are wide and freeing....sorta like this game is open to the sky.
Complimenting this feel is the ease with which you move about...seemless....no lag times and I haven't noticed any dropped frame rates. (Not that i am a gaming expert who might have the experience to recognize such things easier.) Want to move over there...go. Climb that rock face...have at it. Burn that bush....Light it up.
The open gameplay works for me. Example is my son loves to turn-n-burn, go hit up the objectives, skip that pickup...move along. I, on the other hand, love to explore, delay the next objective, check out what's over that next ridge.

(Screen capture in the opening scenes from our WiiU)

Pretty much no one in my family has ever played a Zelda game. I have always noted it in the pop culture background but it never made it into my gaming buys...until now.
We have the WiiU and have recently been tempted by the Switch. In evaluating the Switch and deciding on the pro's and con's, I caught alot about this newest Zelda game. It embraces the open world concept with both arms and a few of the more 'modern' gaming styles, which apparently is a bit of a jump for the Zelda franchise. The reviews have been glowing and my own observations were encouraging enough for me to seriously consider it.

I picked up Assassin's Creed III for the WiiU a year or two ago but haven't gotten that into it (No direct shot on the game as my time has been at a premium). The gameplay is cool but it just didn't grab me. I have been looking for a title that would ease me through the technical with some distracting charm, beauty and/or mystique so I could re-up my participation in some of the more modern gaming.

(screen capture from our WiiU)

(I gotta say...Zelda:BOW has given me that! and, if my son's frequent requests to monopolize the console are any indication, him too. My wife has even tried her hand at it.)
So as we explored our options about the SWITCH, Zelda:BOW began to rise as a possibility to re-engage with a state of the art open world type game. In the end, Being a WiiU owner presented us with the option of sidestepping the SWITCH (for now).
As it solidified that we would wait on a SWITCH purchase (time for the bugs to be stamped out of the system, console game bundles, deeper library), the WiiU version of Zelda became a viable option to make the move on.
This Zelda was originally designed for the WiiU and then adapted somewhere along its development cycle to be ported to the SWITCH. As a result potentially, the game quality on the WiiU promised to be quite high. Screen comparisons between the two versions seemed pretty close. Finally, the actual game reviews have been, I think it safe to say, glowing! So...if I was gonna give big open world gameplay a try...Why not shoot for a widely acclaimed winner?
In addition, the reality is that the WiiU system has finished its primary lifecycle. Zelda looks to be the last major release for it. Personally, my family and I have been quite pleased with it. We purchased it to support our 'Skylandic' Adventures, beginning with Swap Force, I believe. It has a been a champ and we got games like Mario Kart8 and Splatoon to boot! And, I almost forgot: side bonus---no online gameplay costs. So for us finishing with Zelda means we finish our WiiU game Library strong, with a game that adds a whole dimension, a whole facet of the gameplay diamond to the WiiU's utility for us: namely, a real good Open World Playground.
Final Result: Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in, The SWITCH will wait.

Now play Skylanders Imaginators anytime and anywhere on the Nintendo Switch gaming system.
Embark on an Epic New Adventure
Use the Imaginite Creation Crystals to Create Your Own Skylanders
Sensei Skylanders are the Ultimate Masters of the Almighty Sky-Chi Powers
Battle to Save Skylands with the Sensei and Imaginator Skylanders
Use 10 Different Battle Class Types to Defeat Kaos and his Minions
Conquer All-New Side quests & Mini-games
Infinite Possibilities to Create with the Skylanders Imaginators Starter Pack:
Skylanders Imaginators Video Game
2 Skylanders Sensei Figures - Master King Pen and Golden Queen
1 Imaginite Creation Crystal - Fire Creation Crystal
1 Sticker Sheet
Collection Poster featuring the complete set of Skylanders Imaginator Figures

Interesting...not earthshattering but disappointing.
I'm guessing the traps are just a sensor compatability issue. But the racing may be a programming issue. Including it might have meant having to go back and reconfigure not just Imaginators but pretty much the heart of Superchargers as well.

My new dillema revolves around the online gaming. Ok..so I may have been living uder a Nintendo rock with the Wii and the WiiU, but I didn't realize that XBox and PlayStation were charging for online play.
So now to the problem...we have Splatoon for the WiiU and its really fun. Splatoon 2 would be a likely purchase but now the online cost would have to be paid. Take THAT you pesky budget!
I find it annoying. Now anytime I see Online Play advertised as a cool game feature, I am gonna classify it in my head as not part of the reason I buy the game. Its now going to sit in the continuously paid extra catagory. Im already paying for internet access so I feel like Im paying them to just do their damn job.
I could perhaps see paying for online access for a game like Splatoon 2 one year after purchase.

I liked the layaway idea as a mechanism for a structured payment plan/reminder.
Funny thing is...after digesting the available information more...I think we may have lucked out. Waiting may be the best option.
Why? you might ask...Well...
from least to most significant:
1. No titles that we are dying to play available at release.
2. Price isn't bad but not stellar
3. No particular incentive to be first...no bundles, no bling...just the hip factor of having it first (see Point 1).
4. No Game included.
And the biggest...
5. Paid online gaming !!!!! WHAAAAAAA...????

Well, today is the day...Nintendo will finally be doing a proper reveal on the Nintendo Switch! The presentation will start at 10 PM CST and you can watch along here:

What are your thoughts? Is this a Day 1 buy, something you'll get as soon as you have the cash, or are you going to hold out for holiday bundles, or a lower price? I kind of feel I got burned on both the Wii U and XB1 launch...full price, no discounts, no freebies, and no bundle. I may very well wait on this one, although a new Mario Kart or Mario Galaxy 3 could certainly sway that decision...

My Thoughts: The only periphereal that doesn't seem super high is the JoyCon, but realistically I would have pegged it at $30-40 max, regardless of the technology. If you are buying a JoyCon, you already have a Switch etc. There is also a wheel, but I left it off because there was no image and I have no clue what it is, lol.

Online Services

(Copied directly from Nintendo's Website - Linked here with chart)

"Online Play on Nintendo Switch You’ll be able to play compatible co-op and competitive games online by signing in with your Nintendo Account. Online play will be free for Nintendo Account holders until our paid online service launches in fall 2017. After the free-trial period, most games will require a paid online service subscription from Nintendo in order to play online. This service is only for Nintendo Switch. It does not affect Wii U or Nintendo 3DS systems or online play. Online lobby and voice chat Our new dedicated smart device app will connect to Nintendo Switch and let you invite friends to play online, set play appointments, and chat with friends during online matches in compatible games─all from your smart device. A free, limited version of this app will be available for download in summer 2017. Monthly game download Subscribers will get to download and play a Nintendo Entertainment System™ (NES) or Super Nintendo Entertainment System™ (Super NES) game (with newly-added online play) for free for a month. Exclusive deals Special offers for subscribers may include discounts on select digital games and content. Make the most of your Nintendo Switch The paid service lets you take your gaming up a notch with online multiplayer and exclusive benefits. Standard online features such as system and game updates will be free for all Nintendo Switch users. To access any of your system’s online services, you’ll need a Nintendo Account. Create one today so you’ll be ready when Nintendo Switch launches."

-My Thoughts: It is basically Xbox Live. It is a great addition, but sad we have to pay for it. The free games are a nice touch, but are they pre-selected, user's choice, and what happens if you don't renew...do you lose access to the "free" games you got while paying, or are they forever your own to play any time?

I am with out a doubt going to be picking my first love of Pokemon's first Gen Yellow version, I may play Red and Blue as well but if I can only get one it will be Yellow.

Fire Emblem is a must play for me I hope to try for a no death run on my first try but if I fail i'l have two other games to try it with lol ( Gotta nab that collecters for the full set ).

My friend has a Wiiu so him and I will almost certainly be playing Pokken Tournament and I may pick up Hyrule Warriors although im not 100% on that one, im kinda burnt out on dynasty warriors esc titles. The one I really wanted to see was Metroid Federation Force as a Metroid fan im not actually mad to see this its a sign my beloved franchise is alive and now they know how many people want a mainstream addition. Alas it was not shown.

My absolute most anticipated game from all of this though would have to be Final Fantasy Explorers! I am sooooo friggen pumped for this game its not even funny! Im hoping for some fun dungeon crawler mechanics much like Crystal Chronicals the original bucket game lol

Oh! and if I do break down and get a Wiiu Starfox is a must as I loved Starfox Assault and hope for more of the same!

The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD. I have mixed feelings on this, I do have a couple 3DS LoZ titles and play a little bit here and there, but not my favourite. The puzzles are challenging and fun but sometimes frustrating. That's not to say I have any idea what the gameplay will be like, but if it follows previous games it will be very similar but on the Wiiu and thus not portable and less pick up/ put down. so that's not so good, but that amiibo looks so good, a lot of people I've heard say that Nintendo are just making games no one wants but putting amiibo in them to make it more popular. I probably won't pick this up.

Hyrule Warriors Legends 3DS. I didn't play the original Hyrule Warriors, but this looks like like a more approachable title. Being on 3DS it will be more pick up/put down like the rest of the titles in the series I have, and a brawl/combat style gameplay which looks pretty fun. I will probably pick this up.

Star Fox/ Dragon quest titles. I have never played any of these types of games and know very little on them so I can't really make a judgement at this point.

Fire Emblem Fates. This game looks very fun, and as you may have guessed I love 3DS games for their casual style gameplay which can often lead to an interesting and invested story in the games themselves and here there's basically 3 games in one. I've also heard a lot of good things about this series, so I'm very excited. will most likely pick up.

Pokken Tournament. I've never really played fighter style games because mainly that's not something that interests me. Even with pokemon I'm not too excited about this game.

POkemon Super Mystery Dungeon. Always loved this series so I will definitely pick up.

Animal Crossing Amiibo. These are cute, need I say more?

So now you've seen my opinions I'd like to hear yours.
