The new 3ds coming out in November will have nfc built in to the lower screen for amiibo, and its possible that future games in the skylanders series could gave a similar possibility. You could get a download code in store or buy it on the e shop, and it will come with 2/3 "instant" characters like this year's tablet edition. The game would cost half the price, if not less, and would require no cartridge and minimal shelf space. No need for a portal, thats what your new 3ds is for. Think of a tablet edition with no portal for the new 3ds. What do you think of my idea?

Yeah the NFC is very similar to RFID. In fact, the seemingly little played Pokemon Rumble U let you just put the figure on the unknown by most NFC area of the GamePad...works like a champ!

I was unaware the New 3DS had that built in to the screen...I'll probably wind up with their adapter.

Your idea is great, but I don't think they are ready to give up the $65-$75 Starter Packs any time soon, lol.

I hope the New 3DS gets a sweet NES style reboot like the new XL. If not for the New 3DS I would probably pull the trigger on the new XL...It helps with bigger hands, lol.
