Pop Fizz is a complex, two-fold character. His Beast Form attacks are straight forward and efficient, but timed. His potion attacks are fun and unique, but take a bit more training to fully master.
If you are a veteran of the series, you should have your preferred path. Love Potion Pop Fizz actually sports slightly higher stats, so keep that in mind as you might like him and his increased Critical Hit down your preferred path.
Mad Scientist kicks off with Master Chemist where each potion does increased damage. This is the most straight forward and appreciated upgrade down that path imo. Mixologist offers up a pretty cool Green + Yellow Flame that does nice damage, but it is a quick reaction and not always easy to set up. I found going thru that you can actually have the beakers (Purple Potion) run thru the acid splash and turn green, but it is a nightmare to try and evaluate damage increase thereto. All In allows you to chuck 3 of which ever potion you are holding, this is convenient, but does require a quick charge.
In my opinion, people takings this path will want to use the Yellow Potion for a standard attack. If you want to be fully stacked going into battle, go to the Purple Potion and get three of the beaker buddies ready, each one has about a 30 second shelf life. My personal favorite is the Green Potion (Puddle of Pain). This has a nice impact AND the residual damage is great…plus it offers up bonuses via Mixologist. My personal strategy with this path is to get the beaker buddies on hand and then start launching the Green Potion…You don’t do as much initial damage as the Yellow Potion, but the fact that you get all that residual damage reigns supreme in my book.
Where this path comes up short for S3 Pop Fizz is actually in the Wow Pow department. Oversize Me! Is NOT set up for the Mad Scientist Path. While you can activate the Wow Pow and do the same standard 90-135 Damage, you have 12 seconds of run time and get no benefits from the other attacks you gain with Beast Mode’s “Mutant Beast.”
Speaking of which, let’s take a look at Pop Fizz’s Best of the Beast and how it pertains to S3 Pop Fizz in Trap Team. More Beast and Beserker Boost seem less interesting than some of Mad Scientist’s offerings, but the practicality they deliver can not be denied. More Beast essentially doubles the run time for Beast form from 12 to 24 seconds AND it offers a quicker recharge. Beserker Boost let’s Pop Fizz recharge the meter manually by simply attacking enemies.
Couple these to utilitarian upgrades with Mutant Beast and you have a fun and efficient upgrade path. Mutant Beast allows Pop Fizz to orchestrate a special attack based on which potion is active. You get a cool fire flame, a quick strike pounce attack, and a rapid fire combo attack. All of these trigger the Beserker Boost and allow you to fully recharge while unleashing the special attacks.
Now where Best of the Beast really shines is in Oversize Me!, Pop Fizz’s new Wow Pow. While Mad Scientist Pop Fizz gets to enjoy the Wow Pow for about 12 seconds and then has a slow recharge time before he can use it again, Best of the Beast Pop Fizz begins with 2x the run time. The kicker is that Beserker Boost also applies as so while you are in your super powerful Wow Pow state you are recharging the Beast Form meter! To top that off, ALL of your attacks, including the special Mutant Beast upgrades, do increased damage in Oversize Me!
Ultimately, for this iteration of Pop Fizz I would have to officially endorse the Best of the Beast Path. Not only does it play easier, it ties in beautifully with the Wow Pow. Mad Scientist isn’t a bad path, but it is far inferior to Best of the Beast when you factor in the Wow Pow. I would thus recommend Best of the Beast for rookies and veterans alike in regards to Fizzy Frenzy and Love Potion Pop Fizz. Testament to that is my plan to switch Love Potion to Best of the Beast.
